Ceftiofur is used as a veterinary drug to treat respiratory disease in cattle (including lactating cows), swine, sheep, and horses and also has been approved for foot rot infections in cattle and for the control of early poult mortality in day-old turkeys. Cefquinome, is the 4th generation cephalosporin with antimicrobial activity against a broad spectrum of Gran-possive and Gram-nagative bacterial species and is the first 4th generation cephalosporin approved for animal use. It has the following Characters: faster penetration of outer cell membrane (gram-negatives); lower affinity to ß-lactamases; higher affinity to target penicillin binding proteins.
